Why TimeRetain is adding Cloudflare
On 19 November 2026, TimeRetain will start using Cloudflare to help protect the service and provide basic website analytics. Here’s what’s changing and what it means for your privacy.
Better protection and simpler maintenance
Cloudflare helps block malicious traffic before it reaches TimeRetain. This adds another layer of protection alongside the ongoing work of keeping the app and its software up to date.
Cloudflare Web Analytics will also replace the analytics service currently hosted and maintained by TimeRetain. That means fewer systems to maintain and secure, leaving more time to improve the app.
Your time records stay private
Your time entries, descriptions, timelines and tags stay on your device by default.
If you enable sync, your records are encrypted on your device before they are sent. The key needed to read them is not shared with TimeRetain or Cloudflare. The records passing through Cloudflare therefore remain encrypted, even while Cloudflare handles your connection to the service.
The promise remains: TimeRetain can’t see how you spend your time.
What the analytics measure
Cloudflare Web Analytics provides basic statistics, such as which pages people visit and how quickly they load. These help show which pages are useful and where the experience needs improving.
The analytics don’t use cookies or track you across other websites. Your time records and login key aren’t included in these statistics.
What changes for privacy
Cloudflare becomes an additional provider involved in delivering TimeRetain. It processes connection information, including your IP address, browser information and the pages you request, to deliver and protect the service. This information may be processed outside the EU.
Cloudflare may also use cookies for security checks. Those are separate from the website analytics, which don’t use cookies.
Do you need to do anything?
You can keep using TimeRetain as usual. Sync remains optional, and you can still export your records whenever you want.
You can find more information about how data is handled in the privacy policy.
